Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a speaker. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency the website which includes videos and comments on the representation of women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency investigates how women are represented in popular culture. Dispelling stereotypes of women is her main focus. However, Sarkeesian also explores the issue of specifically targeted harassment online against women and other minorities who have been marginalized. Sarkeesian, who holds a Master's in Political and Social Thought from York University, is a well-known public speaker. She has given speeches at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and the United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. Interested in issues concerning gender identities and feminisms from an early age she launched her website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was studying at the University. This ambitious woman planned to start an internet-based program that would examine the role of gender in games but was the target of a harassment campaign online. But the harassment did not discourage her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a journalist who is feminist. In recognition of the many achievements she's made for feminism, she is recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winning media critic. She also serves as the creator and director of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit group that focuses on pop-culture gender representations.
